Storia dell'Arte in Europa. Inghilterra
2014
The "intimate enemies": Edward Dowden, W. B. Yeats and the formation of character
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: Nordic Journal of English Studies. Also available from the publisher at: http://ojs.ub.gu.se/ojs/index.php/njes/article/view/2917 Open Access Stung by Edward Dowden's reluctance to endorse the Irish Literary Revival, W. B. Yeats distanced himself publicly from the TCD Professor. This act of distancing has largely been accepted by subsequent scholarship as a reflection of Dowden's lack of influence on Yeats. Despite obvious disagreements on some key points, this essay will argue that Yeats is close to Dowden on a number of issues, by tracing their intimate dialogue about the writings of George Eliot, Shakespeare and Goethe. The concept of forma…
Shining castles and humans of metal/floral appearance ? metaphorical language in the Palaiologan romances Kallimachos and Velthandros
2019
About eight centuries after Heliodorus, the Greek novel resurfaced in the twelfth century, in Komnenian Byzantium, and again two centuries later under the Palaiologan dynasty. This latter literary revival was due to the political stability of the imperial Byzantine government, which promoted cultural production, rhetorical education, and patronage networks. Kallimachos and Velthandros, two Palaiologan romances presented as court literature, combine ancient and medieval tropes with rhetorical artistry to blur the boundaries between the artificial and the natural. Castles and objects made of precious metals thus resemble living, natural spaces, and human characters are portrayed in metallurgi…
Savigny a Bethmann-Hollweg, 27 agosto 1817: diritto e fede nella Historische Rechtsschule
2020
An unpublished letter written by Savigny to Bethmann-Hollweg in August 1817 provides a starting point for thinking about the relationship between the religious ideology of the Christian Revival (Erweckungsbewegung) , Prussian nationalism and the concept of law within the German Historical School.
Field-free molecular alignment for probing collisional relaxation dynamics
2013
International audience; We report the experimental study of field-free molecular alignment in CO2 gas mixtures induced by intense femtosecond laser pulses in the presence of collisional processes. We demonstrate that the alignment signals exhibit specific features due to nontrivial collisional propensity rules that tend to preserve the orientation of the rotational angular momentum of the molecules. The analysis is performed with a quantum approach based on the modeling of rotational J- and M-dependent state-to-state transfer rates. The present work paves the way for strong-field spectroscopy of collisional dynamics.
L’ORTO BOTANICO DI PALERMO: IL GYMNASIUM
2012
On the base of a valuable documentation of project drawings, sketches and old survey, the Author proposes inedited graphic studies aimed to critically revisit all neoclassical buildings of the gymnasium and the “stoves” that it is it possible to see at the Botanical Garden of Palermo. The charming open-air laboratory that the Botanical Garden of Palermo offer to visitors and experts, in the urban landscape of Palermo, shows how Architecture, Art and Decoration coexist in a synergistic experiment.
Timoleonte e i centri indigeni della Sicilia centrale. L’apporto dell’evidenza numismatica
2011
The studies that in the 1960s developed the theme of the "revival of the Timoleontian age" in the inland centers of central-southern Sicily were based on the erroneous attribution to the Timoleontian age of the Syracusan coin series with the head of Athena/hippocampus and the head of Athena/ star between two dolphins, which determined the generic chronological lowering of the materials and archaeological structures with which the coins were associated and the consequent assignment of many archaeological evidences to the second half of the fourth century BC. The reinterpretation of the numismatic evidence from the hinterland of Sicily proposed in this study offers new interpretative perspect…
Gli argenti Formusa
2011
